Western Europe Print On Demand Market to Achieve Substantial Growth through 2012

According to Info Trends’ research, the production copying and digital printing market in Western Europe will account for 449.6 billion impressions in 2012, generating total annual equipment, supply, and service revenues of nearly €10 billion. In addition, the retail value of print will surpass €79 billion.

Color print on demand continues to be the driver of the growth in this market, which is primarily due to the success of production color devices. In fact, while the total retail value of print in the Western Europe Print On Demand market will reach € 45.8 in 2012, over €40 billion of this total will be attributable to pages printed on color devices. Although the retail value per page in this segment will decline, the growth of page volumes will offset that drop.

Info Trends Director Ralf Schlozer commented, “Color will continue to grow rapidly and while the stunning success of light production will continue, the highest page growth will stem from the new generation of ultra high-volume color printers.”

While placements for lower speed color devices are declining, increases in higher speed segments do more than compensate. Installations of color devices with speeds of 45 ppm or faster will grow with an average annual rate of 23%. In particular, high-speed and high-volume color devices will drive growth in average print volumes, and by 2012 the number of color prints is expected to almost double.
